SoftwareV2 - Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2025-11-01

This Privacy Policy describes how the SoftwareV2 browser extension (the "Extension") processes information. The Extension helps you select parts of a webpage, capture screenshots, and send that context to CodeGuide to create tasks or chat with AI via a Chrome side panel.

1. Scope

This policy applies to the Extension itself. When you choose to send content to CodeGuide services (for example, create a task or send a chat message), that data is handled by CodeGuide's backend according to the CodeGuide service policies.

2. What We Process

We design the Extension to process only what is necessary and primarily what you explicitly provide.

Data you provide (on submit):

  • Text you type, such as chat messages or task details
  • Optional attachments you include, like screenshots or HTML snippets
  • Your CodeGuide API key to authenticate requests

Data stored locally (on your device):

  • CodeGuide API key (codeguide_api_key)
  • Selected project and model identifiers
  • Theme and onboarding preferences
  • A local index that maps captured elements to tasks, including selectors, optional screenshots, bounding rectangles, and the page URL

Data we do not collect:

  • Browsing history
  • Continuous user activity such as keystrokes or mouse movement
  • Precise location or GPS data
  • Health or financial information, unless you voluntarily include it in submissions

3. How We Collect and Use Data

  • User-initiated only: The Extension captures content only when you explicitly start a selection or trigger a capture. It does not monitor pages in the background.
  • Purpose: Your data is used solely to deliver the Extension's functionality—capturing context and interacting with CodeGuide at your request.
  • Network transfers: Inputs and attachments are sent to your configured CodeGuide API endpoint (defaults tohttps://api.codeguide.dev) only when you submit actions such as "Create Task" or send a chat.

4. Permissions Disclosure

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions to deliver its features:

  • host_permissions (<all_urls>): Supports the selection overlay and messaging between the page and side panel.
  • sidePanel: Presents the Extension interface.
  • storage: Stores local preferences and session state.

These permissions enable features only for explicit actions you take; they do not grant continuous access to your browsing data.

5. Sharing and Transfers

  • We do not sell user data.
  • Data you submit is shared only with CodeGuide services and essential infrastructure vendors required to operate those services.

6. Retention and Control

  • Local data remains in chrome.storage.local until you clear it through the Extension settings, browser controls, or by removing the Extension.
  • Data sent to CodeGuide is retained according to your CodeGuide account settings and policies. You can delete content in the CodeGuide app or request deletion via support.

7. Security

Your API key is stored in chrome.storage.local and transmitted to the CodeGuide API only to authenticate requests that you initiate. All network communication uses HTTPS to the configured CodeGuide API base URL.

8. Children's Privacy

The Extension is not intended for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.

9. Your Choices and Rights

  • You can opt not to submit data through the Extension.
  • You may clear local data or remove the Extension at any time.
  • Manage or delete content in the CodeGuide app and contact support to exercise additional rights available in your jurisdiction.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as features evolve. Any changes will be reflected in the effective date above and in the published version of this document.
